There is no shortage of everyday-utility tools online; what is scarce is one that respects your time. HoroCalc is deliberately narrow — it finds your Western sun sign from your birth date and your Chinese zodiac animal from your birth year and stops there. A small, honest tool beats a sprawling page that buries the answer under advertising.
The method behind it
No server is involved in the arithmetic. It maps the birth date against the Western zodiac date ranges, which shift by a day or two at the cusp on some years, and derives the Chinese animal from the lunar year cycle rather than the calendar year alone. We state the method openly because a tool that cannot explain its own answer is not much use to anyone trying to trust it.

This is a local tool by construction. The birth date you enter never leaves your device; there is no endpoint to receive it and no log to read it back from. Disconnecting from the internet after the page loads changes nothing about how it behaves.
